Metropolitan Nektarios of Hong Kong

Biography

His Eminence Metropolitan Nektarios (Tsilis) of Hong-Kong, exarch of the Far East, was born in Poligyros, Dodoni, in Ioannina in 1969. He is a graduate of the Higher Ecclesiastical School of Athens and of the University of Athens School of Theology. He was ordained deacon in 1990 and priest in 1995. During the years 1990-2001, as a member of the clergy, he served as preacher in the Holy Metropolis of Piraeus, as priest-in-charge of the Church of the Life-Receiving Spring in Hatzikiriakio, as well as Chairman of the Church Council and as the Director of the Administrative Committee of the Foundation of the church of Saint John at the Hatzikiriakio Orphanage. He was also the Programme Director of the “Peiraiki Ecclesia” (Church of Piraeus) radio station, the Assistant Director of the “Peiraiki Ecclesia” journal and Secretary for Youth organization of the Holy Metropolis. During the years 2001-2007, he served as General Episcopal Committee Member and Preacher in the Holy Metropolis of Samos and Ikaria, member of the Diocesan Court, priest-in-charge the Holy Metropolitan Church of St. Nicholas on Samos, as well as Chairman of the Church Council. He was the Chairman of the Administrative Committee at Our Lady Spyliani, the dependency on Samos of the Monastery  of  Our Lady of Chozeba, and Acting  Abbot of the Holy Monastery of Our Lady Vrodiani Holy Monastery in Samos. He has represented the Holy Metropolis of Piraeus and that of Samos and Ikaria at youth conferences, at others on how to deal with heresies and para-religious groups, as well as on European matters. On 9 January 2008, he was elected Metropolitan of Hong-Kong.
